Picture Hanging

Once again I'm going to count "picture hanging" as a craft. I think it's fun to compare siblings at the same age, so I hung a photo grouping of my children at 3 months old. The signs next to the pictures are vinyl sayings with the child's name big and in small script over the name it says "a child of God". I crafted those a few years ago. Now to make one for the baby...

J.Crew Necklace

In my nonstop browsing of crafty blogs and endless dreams of projects, I saw this necklace tutorial and thought it seemed easy enough. Then I found the perfect beads at a garage sale (for $.25). So I bought matching ribbon and cranked out a project. The necklace to the left is the one found at J.Crew for $15. If you look up the tutorial at SamsterMommy , she was excited to make hers for $4. I was way excited to know that I made mine for $0.60! It turned out cute and is much greener than pictured (the ribbon is a lime green color, but the necklace photographed pretty bright and washed out its color). I didn't have quite enough beads, but it didn't matter. This project is very doable - it took me about 20 minutes and could have been faster. So go get some bead and get to work!!

Sunflower Cupcakes

Cake/Cupcake decorating seems to be all the rage lately. In response, I checked out several cake/cupcake decorating books from my library. I especially liked Hello, Cupcake - the book had great ideas with clear pictures and made it seem like anyone could make fun cupcakes. And so it was attempted:

In the end they turned out super cute. We had some problems at first because the icing wasn't thick enough - it wouldn't spike up and was mushy. After adding large quantities of powdered sugar, we had the right consistency. Trial and error. It was a fun craft! (the good ones pictures weren't made by me!) Later a few ladybugs made theirselves at home:

Need a tutorial so you can tackle this? Here ya go

Matching Skirts

You've probably noticed that I have a thing for matching. I made myself a skirt using fabric from Ikea. I used a McCall's pattern (they were on sale when I was looking). Then I whipped up a couple of similar skirts for my girls - they're not as well fitted since I didn't use a pattern, but they don't seem to mind. I also made them some headbands to coordinate. All of it was very quick and easy and doable, even for a non-sewer. So go try and make something for yourself to wear - you can do it!

Curtains

I finally made some curtains to replace the ones in our family room (they where here when we moved in). I should have taken a before picture - just think mauve/pink with gold involved, all big and puddling on the floor. I would take a picture now, but I cut them up and used them to make my new ones - repurposing, of course. I used the old lining, hooks, weights, etc. I even hand-sewed the edges and hem for the professional look. I am addicted to Amy Butler fabric! Next, coordinating pilows!
