I have some travel pillows in my bookmarked list of to-do projects – these are not them. But I threw these together last minute, and the kids loved them. The fun part – handles! – I don’t have to lug their stuff, they can, and easily.
My mom bought the kids these travel size pillows for our trip to the lake (we rode in my parents’ RV – quite the ride). She had also grabbed regular sized pillowcases and handed everything over to me.
First I put the pillows on top of the pillowcases and cut off a chunk of the side and the bottom (I didn’t set the bottom chunk in the picutre)
Then I sewed on the monograms. It’s always easier to do that sort of thing with an open piece of fabric. Then I sewed up the open seams (side and bottom).
I added a strip of fabric because why not. I made the girls’ ruffles and they boys’ regular.
Then I zig-zagged a big rectangle. Think giant button hole. It looked like this:
After you zig-zag (on both sides separately) you cut out the inside part, keeping close to the inside edge of your zig-zag. And voila, you get this kind of fun:
These pillows were the perfect size for travel, and had the perfect portability.

These look very neat and I will make a few. Feel free to pass on any pillow case patterns you have since I make pillow cases and quilts for disabled veterans, elderly, church, cancer patients and premature babies. All of this is being done on my fixed income and I accept anything people can donate like fabric, thread, buttons, zippers and all sorts of trimmings. I am praying I can find an embroidery machine since my disabled veterans and the elderly tend to lose their items once it goes to laundry. I want to be able to put their names on their names on their items so they get them back to the right person. If you should hear of anyone who has a machine they no longer need they can donate it to my church Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church at 112900 Old Jeanerette Rd. Jeanerette, LA 70544 and they can call the church as proof that I am doing this work for charity. Call Father Dismis or Michelle Martin and tell them you want to verify that Marilyn Fruge is doing work for charity and the church and they will be my proof. I’m not looking for anything fancy, just something to make sure the right quilt, lapquilt and pillow case gets back to its owner. The phone number to the church is 337-276-6900. Please make sure if you are shipping anything to church to put it to the attention of Marilyn Fruge so Father can make sure I get it right away when I go to mass. Thank you for reading my post.
