I'm sure you've all heard of the Boy Scouts of America, right?!?! Boy Scouts of America
Did you realize that it is a significant part of our family??
--Trevor is an Eagle Scout - such a huge accomplishment! I know when applying for various college programs and jobs, etc, he includes "Eagle Scout" on his resume because it's such a recognizable sign of leadership and accomplishment.
--As newlyweds, he was a Cub Scout Committee Chair (headed up all the Pack Meetings) and I was a Cub Scout Den Leader, where he helped me with my meetings each week - such a fun way to serve others and work together with one another.
--Currently I am the Bear Den Leader of the troop at our church - you can be jealous of the high fashion I wear on Wednesday Nights:
--My 8 year old son is currently a Wolf in the Cub Scout Program - he looks forward to scouts every week! Here he is at Day Camp this past summer:
My favorite part of the Cub Scout Program - well, I have lots of favorites...One of them is how it helps support the Family Unit. Lots of requirements have to be done with your family (for example, have a picnic with your family) - it makes us do things together. And even when the projects are for my son, often the other children are involved as well. The Pack Meetings are family friendly and have activities for all the children. I love how it helps us focus on doing things with the kids:
--Last week in my Den the boys earned their "whittling chip" - it's a big deal for the 9 year olds! They learn about pocket knife safety and then get to try their hand at using pocket knives - we carved animals out of soap. I don't know much about pocket knives, so I invited a guest speaker for the night, which makes it even more special for the boys. I'm glad I remember to snap a quick picture on my Tab thing:
I know that Cub Scouting, and Boy Scouting after that, will help my boys grow and develop skills that will be with them throughout their lives. Skills like using tools, proper nutrition and healthy lifestyles, outdoor skills, and in their new curriculum additions of science, technology, engineering, and math. Learning how to set and accomplish goals.
Obviously I can't say enough about Scouts - such a great program!
