What kind of sewing machine did you get your daughter? I bought my daughter one for Christmas from Joann's and it is crap. It only does topstitch, you have to unscrew a case surrounding the needle to thread it and all the stitches come out super loose, even though I've tightened the tension all the way. I only spent $10 so I really shouldn't complain, but I would like to get her one that actually works. Thanks!
