Fighting Hunger – together!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Walmart Foundation for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Can you believe it’s April??  Really, spring is upon us – how did that happen!?!  Normally when you think Spring, it’s all happy things, but did you know that Springtime traditionally brings a decrease in food and charitable donations to food banks around the country.  So I’m excited to try and combat that by getting the word out about a new campaign from Walmart:

Did you know that more than 50 Million Americans don’t know where their next meal will come from. And one of the principal causes of hunger is unemployment.  SO, Walmart is holding a contest to feed the hungry based on the cities/communities with the highest unemployment rate.

Coming up next week and running through the end of April,  April 9th to April 30th,  Walmart will be hosting a Facebook campaign where fans can rally support for communities in need of hunger relief. Vote among 200 communities with the highest unemployment rate as determined by a Department of Labor Report (found here: http://bit.ly/H1yxFK). Walmart will donate a total of $2 million to the 21 communities receiving the most support: $1 million to the winner and $50,000 each to the 20 runners-up. Winning communities will be announced May 1st.

You can go here to vote: Vote to fight spring hunger with Walmart  Pick your city and spread the word to rally votes!

Even thought it’s not too near the top of the list, I’ll be voting for Kansas City, MO-KS Metropolitan Statistical Area -because that’s the area nearest me and I think everyone wants to help those around them.  Hopefully it can be in the top 21 communities of votes tallied.

In addition to voting, you can help during that same time period by making purchases of certain products at Walmart.   By purchasing select products from ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogg’s, customers can donate meals to Feeding America or Action for Healthy Kids, a nonprofit fighting childhood hunger. Check out in-store signage and packaging to make a purchase and help make a difference.

I love when I can actively particpate in helping a cause!
