Dress to Maxi Skirt - knit refashion

Since I did a refashion tutorial post yesterday, I thought it'd be fun to group a few Refashion Posts together - so I've got another one for you today....
I made this amazing knit maxi skirt - - and it took no time at all!!  I feel like it's pretty on target with the fashions this season, and have gotten lots of compliments the couple of times I've worn it.  So how'd I refashion it??  Well, at church there was a "clothing swap" and I found this catch of a dress - but it was a size 2XL:
Obviously not my size.  So I cut it apart as shown in the picture below.  First I cut straight across under the armpits - then I cut a big strip off of the side:
So, you can see the part that will make the main part of the dress - I just had to sew up that one side that I cut.  And I took it in a little more at the waist.  Then I took that piece on the left, cut it to fit my waist, and sewed it on as the waistband.  That was it!!  I love the lines in it:

So I've styled it a couple of different ways - I like both looks!
It is so comfy and so fun!!  I love this refashion!!  Start looking for knit dresses that may be too big for you and see what you can do....

  4. Love the skirt, but the white shirt is too long - it's all lumpy under the skirt... Love the blue top and belt!
