Dress to Maxi Skirt – knit refashion

Since I did a refashion tutorial post yesterday, I thought it’d be fun to group a few Refashion Posts together – so I’ve got another one for you today….

I made this amazing knit maxi skirt – - and it took no time at all!!  I feel like it’s pretty on target with the fashions this season, and have gotten lots of compliments the couple of times I’ve worn it.  So how’d I refashion it??  Well, at church there was a “clothing swap” and I found this catch of a dress – but it was a size 2XL:

Obviously not my size.  So I cut it apart as shown in the picture below.  First I cut straight across under the armpits – then I cut a big strip off of the side:

So, you can see the part that will make the main part of the dress – I just had to sew up that one side that I cut.  And I took it in a little more at the waist.  Then I took that piece on the left, cut it to fit my waist, and sewed it on as the waistband.  That was it!!  I love the lines in it:

So I’ve styled it a couple of different ways – I like both looks!

It is so comfy and so fun!!  I love this refashion!!  Start looking for knit dresses that may be too big for you and see what you can do….
