Book Review – Captain No Beard

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Carole Roman for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
Captain No Beard – An Imaginary Tale of a Pirate’s Life by Carole P. Roman is what I’d like to mention today.  We LOVE getting all of our kiddos books as gifts.  I think it is the tradition in many families, and I love that.  I received books as a child, and so did Trevor.  We love giving books to our children, to expand their imaginations and encourage their love of reading.  So if you still have books left to buy this season, this is one to consider.

From Amazon: Captain No Beard and his pirate ship The Flying Dragon set sail for a voyage of the imagination with his fearless crew of four: First Mate Hallie, Mongo the Monkey, Linus the loudmouthed lion, and Fribbit the floppy frog. Normally a young boy named Alexander, his cousin Hallie, and three stuffed animals, once they board his bed their world is transformed into a magical vessel, sailing the seven seas on dangerous and exciting adventures! “Roman charms with an imaginative, whimsical picture book that will entertain even the oldest pirates.” Kirkus Review
Really, which kiddos don’t like pirates – they all do!  There is just something about saying “argh!” that is a hidden desire in everyone.  And I love that this is about a boy and his imagination that transforms himself and his stuffed animals into a pirate and crew.
I know that this story will appeal to my preschool boy as well as my Kindergarten girl – it is a universally fun story.  Some books are tailors to boys or girls, but I feel that this one is for all kiddos from about age 3 to 8 (and probably beyond – even my ten year old loves looking at a good picture book occasionally). There are several characters which gives individual kids thew opportunity to relate to a character that is similar to themselves.
I would love to have my kids relate to Captain No Beard – he faces challenges and responsibilities but doesn’t shy away from the tasks at hand.  He steps up and fulfills his leadership role – an amazing character trait we are trying to instill in our children.  Leadership is a big deal with our kids because it’s a huge focus at their school.
It would be a great gift this holiday season – so if you are still in shopping mode (you have a whole week, right – what’s the rush?!?) check out Captain No Beard – An Imaginary Tale of a Pirate’s Life
