And guess what - they come from a FREE pattern over at Homemade Toast - score! She has the instructions for Baby Shoes (like I made - with elastic in the back) and for Toddler shoes (with a velcro strap across the front)
The free pattern is generic and you'll need to size it to fit. But if you don't want to take that extra step, you can purchase a size-specific pattern from Homemade Toast Etsy Shop - the baby pattern includes sizes newborn-24 months and the toddler pattern includes sizes 3-10. I was sent the sized pattern to try out and loved that I didn't have to think. I used the 6-9 month size for my niece.
The hardest part is deciding on fabric! I wanted something wild, but ultimately I thought that something more neutral would go with more outfits. So I went with a black and white. But to add a little fun the lining and sole are in turquoise, along with the stitching.
I have made baby shoes before so I know the general construction of them. I thought the pattern was well-written and the steps were explained thoroughly. Again, you can find those free instructions at Homemade Toast - she walks you through step-by-step via photos.
Now, I realize part of the cuteness is the tags - personalized always steps things up a level. The tutorial tells you how to make them, but you can also order custom tags from the Homemade Toast Etsy Shop (discount below) as well - and she ships you 3 tags, just in case you mess up on one - I appreciate that!
I just can't get over this cuteness! These would make the perfect baby gift - and they don't take much fabric, and they come together pretty quickly, especially after you've made one and know the construction process.
You can head over to Homemade Toast and get started right away - - use coupon code SUGARBEE that will discount 20% off the Etsy Shop (bringing patterns down to $3.60, and tags to $4.80) It will begin on the 28th and run for a week, ending on the 4th at midnight.
but guess what - they are offering a giveaway to 5 Winners - eek!! Each winner would receive a pattern pack (either baby or toddler) and a set of tags. Enter using Rafflecopter below - good luck!
