Our school has a big push to encourage all students to read 20 minutes a day - especially in the summer when they're out of school. I agree - I think reading keeps their minds moving.
Studies show that the more children read, the better readers they become. But it's not simply about reading more. Children who are actively engaged as they read—thinking about what they are reading versus looking passively at the words on the page—have been shown to regularly outperform children who are less engaged in what they are reading. And I want that for my kids.
So when I had the chance to blog about LeapFrog Reading Month, I'm all over that! We received a Tag from LeapFrog and you have the chance to win one too!! (keep reading for the giveaway info)
We have been LOVING the tag from LeapFrog - - it's aimed at my Kindergartner and preschooler...
But everyone wants a chance with it!
I'm not a morning person, so I'm all about turning on the TV in the morning for a show or two. It's our routine. But after getting the Tag, I found my 4 year old "reading" to himself instead of watching morning TV - that says a lot!
He even told me that morning "I had a dream that there was a new library and we got books that my pen could read" - - that tells you how much he loves his Tag. He took it to preschool to show all his friends. It's like a pen, but when you touch areas in the books it reads them, tells you facts, has you play little games, etc. It really is great and we give it two hearty thumbs up!
