Lucky

If you didn't catch it, Trevor was razzing my decorating again on his blog - just because the sign in our entryway says "happy new" ("year" was erased by some kid).  Completely unrelated, I still have a spiderweb vinyl decal on our front door windows.

But moving on, I thought I'd better bring on some March decor.  Since I'm late to the game - only a week left until St. Patrick's Day - it's not very elaborate.

I started with this simple plaque - -
I whipped it out using my Silhouette - - love how you can just "whip out" a project with it.  Let me give you a tip about the cutting mat...
my mat has been used a lot, and it's loosing it's "sticky".  But I'm frugal, and haven't purchased a new mat yet (though I really need to) - so in the meantime, I just coat the mat with a light layer of spray glue.  Then push down whatever I'm sticking to the mat - paper or vinyl or whatever.  Works for me!
So the pennant banner and the shamrock are shapes I purchased in the Silhouette online store.  The Silhouette software will also trace shapes, so you could do that, but I'm lazy so just purchasing ready-to-go shapes was what I did this time around.  The shamrock is out of glittery vinyl - love that stuff!! (I think I got it at Expressions Vinyl - but I'm not for sure).

To update my entryway I clipped up a bunch of shamrocks.  Here's a before and after for you:
 I read the tip that the key to chalkboard art is to draw on a wet chalkboard - - I tried it and wow, the chalk went on so much better - - so I'm passing that tip along - worked great!

  2. Thanks for the tip on the spray adhesive for re-sticking your mat. I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I'm sure that after a few more of these Silhouette projects, I'll need to do some re-sticking.

    Isn't it great how quickly you can whip out some sweet decor with a Silhouette? And if it makes you feel any better, we still had some fake evergreen garland on the stairs to our basement that I JUST took down last night. Oh yeah, and burned out Christmas lights were intertwined with it, too. Ha ha. I need to get decorating for St. Patty's now, too!

  4. i love writing on a wet chalkboard! my first classroom had old school chalkboards in it (not those new fancy white boards) and i always wished i could rub a wet cloth over it before i taught a lesson just because it would be so much prettier...alas the attention span of 2/3 graders is not that long, nor do they care.

    also, just have to mention i love that Trevor's box in on the bottom so he has to basically squat or sit on the floor to use it!

  5. I was hoping I didn't have to buy a new mat already. Thanks for the tip. What a difference your shamrocks make in the entryway. I love the glittery vinyl. It really makes the plaque pop. Nice work!

  6. Is it sad that I was so excited to get my Silhouette and now I've barely used it?
    Also, is that part of a crib on the wall? So awesome! My youngest (and last) is about to move out of his crib. I love the idea of using the pieces in new ways.
