Many of you know that I’m LDS and twice a year in our church we all gather (via tv and internet broadcast) for a church-wide General Conference. I believe in a living prophet and living apostles, and that God speaks to us in messages through them (in addition to speaking to us through direct prayer communication). So at General Conference, we get to hear thoughts and stories and counsel and direction from the Prophet and Apostles. You can watch online at www.lds.org April 1st and 2nd.
With General Conference coming up, in Primary the kiddos played a game trying to match names with the faces of the Apostles – it made me realize that my kiddos (and myself!) could use some help brushing up on our who’s who knowledge. So I went home that afternoon and made a simple printable. Then I thought others might be interested in it too – so I thought I’d share it with you guys!
It’s super basic and you can print it all in black-and-white – no need for any fancy color prints 😉 And of course, it’s a FREE printable.
Apostles Matching Cards
I didn’t take any pics of the assembly (I didn’t think to share the prints here on my blog til later!), but basically you’ll want to print out the picture sheets and name sheets onto cardstock (so they’re not see through). Then just cut them apart on the lines. We then laminated them, because I’m addicted to laminating all the things (and I’ve hooked my kids on laminating too!), but that’s just a bonus step.
The cards are great for use as a family home evening game or as a quiet activity while watching general conference, or even to quiz each other on car rides. Possibilities are endless! I thought of 3 main ways to play, but I’m sure there are others.
–Matching Game – lay out the pictures, and then see if you can match the name cards to the right person. Or vice-versa by laying out the name cards and matching up the pictures.
–Memory Game – place all the cards face-down. Flip two over to see if you can find a match. A match consists of a photo and the corresponding name. If it’s not a match, flip them back over and it’s the next person’s turn. Keep flipping two at a time until you find matches. You’ll start to remember where the cards are and be able to make matches more easily as the game is played.
–Flash Cards – glue (or less permanent idea – ticky tack) the name card to the back of the photo card. Go through the deck by “quizzing” yourself, pull out a card, and see if you can name who it is. Flip it over to see if you were correct.
Now I know you’re wondering, and YES, there’s an answer key included in the printable 😉 It’s a full sheet to make it easy to read, but I wanted to be able to store it with the small stack of cards, so I printed mine off as a “wallet” photo size.
That’s all there is to it!!
