Remember, there’s Gnome One Like You! Aren’t Gnomes just the best – if you loved the movie Gnomeo & Juliet like our family did, you’ll be excited to know about the latest upcoming movie, SHERLOCK GNOMES in theaters March 23!
We love punny things at our house, so it was fun to put together a decor sign quote for my daughter’s room. And of course she was able to help create this fun craft!
Before we get to our craft, here is a little bit about the film: They’re on a mission to bring every gnome home . After a string of garden gnome disappearances in London, Gnomeo & Juliet look to legendary detective Sherlock Gnomes to solve the case of their missing friends and family.
We loved Gnomeo & Juliet – and we’re so excited to see their adventures in Sherlock Gnomes! Sherlock Gnomes is a fun, family movie that is all about the value of teamwork and putting family first. Watch the trailer:
We were able to coordinate it with her room and those fun pops of red, and it looks great on her dresser:
Quote Kid’s Paint Craft – for Kid’s Room Decor
You’ll need:
–Quote cut out of vinyl to use as a stencil – if you’d like this FREE GNOME QUOTE CUT FILE, I have that for you. Also, transfer tape.
–Paint in desired colors, foam paint brushes
–Wood in desired size
First paint your board the same color that you would like your letters to be in the end. I wanted mine white, so I painted the board white.
Using Transfer Tape, transfer your quote from it’s backing to your project board.
Press firmly, securing the vinyl. Then remove the transfer tape.
Next, paint a bleed layer – basically you’ll want to paint over the vinyl with a thin layer of background paint – that way if it bleeds under the stencil, it’ll match, and then it will seal the stencil to your board.
Then your kiddos can dive in and really start creating. Start with one color and brush it on in blocks:
Keep brushing on and switching colors. It helps to let the paint dry between layers.
Here’s about halfway done:
This part is so fun! There’s no rules, just have fun with it!
Kids can really get creative in the process.
So proud of her artwork. I love having them contribute to the decor in their rooms, they get the sense of creativity and pride and accomplishment whenever they see their own decor.
When all the painting is done, it’s time for the grand reveal – peeling up the letter stencils!
Pulling the vinyl off will reveal the background color – in this case, the white.
This is a really fun technique that gives great results!
I wish you could come see it in person. It says “remember, there’s gnome one just like you” – perfect sentiment.
And since it’s custom decor, it goes great with her room!
